summarize the points made in the lecture ,being sure to explain how they cast a doubt on the specific theories in the reading passage.
Franchise VS Independent Business
The reading states that it is better to do business as a franchise of a company rather than starting on our own and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that many might think the former opinion is correct, but a recent study revealed the opposite and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that the franchises recommend reliable suppliers of goods and services. The professor refutes this points by explaining that the franchises force people to buy goods and services only from whom they suggest. Even though there are equivalent suppliers who provides goods and services in the same quality and in cheaper price, the company doesn't allows to buy from them.
Second, the reading posits that individuals can save a lot of money on advertising. However, the professor contends that the franchise do charge more from us than we expect. According to the professor, it is quite a big amount to pay six percent of the total sales to the company for using their name. Moreover, the company does not advertise our businesses to grow, rather it does advertisement for it is own product. She states that, in her opinion, even if we spend half the amount of what we pay for a franchise on advertising our own business, we can attain good profits with little investment.
Third, the reading avers that the franchise provides us more security. The professor opposes this point by explaining that it is true that it has less risk, but, it is not the best option. The professor states that, the reading failed to address an important aspect which must be considered. It is better to take over an independent business from previous owners than involving in franchise business. There are twice greater chances for us to succeed in doing a take over business from previous owners rather than choosing franchises in a four year long run.
