Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on
specific points made in the reading passage.
The lecturer is not convinced about the shortcomings mentioned in the passage about marketing and consumer utilisation of the wood products with high ecological standards.
Ecocertification of wood is done by an international organization to meet up with the sustainable practices towards conservation of forest resources, such that they are recyclable and reduce the depletion of natural resources.
Firstly, the lecturer states that the point regarding Americans being negligent towards the ecocentric label over other advertisements and labels is not true. Even though there are many products in the market with various labels, Americans have a keen eye to distinguish the local products and internationally labelled products.
The preference would be given to a better product which is suitable to the current needs and trends.
Moreover, he negates the statement about the cost difference and its governance over the sale of materials, by clarifying that the discrepancy of price between the local wood product and ecocertified wood product would be around five percent , thus not making much of a difference.
Its natural human tendency to select a cheaper product, but not when the quality is comprised. The ecocertified wood claims a better result holistically which is vital to the consumers.
Lastly, owing to the fierce competition on a global scale, the American companies would have to buckle up to meet up with the foreign companies who will try to infiltrate the American market. With the local consumers being interested in good quality standard products, it is rather easy to introduce ecocertified wood into the market and for doing so, the companies would have to get acquainted with the latest trends.
Therefore, the lecturer supports the idea of introducing ecoecertified wood by justifying his statements in contrast to the reasons against it in the passage.
