The reading passage elucidates the origin of Nutria and its widespread across the ecosystem. It also describes it as an annoying pest and several measures can be implemented to remove them. However, the lecturer refutes the claims made in the passage. Let us look into the claims and understand why the lecturer disagrees with them.
Firstly, the passage recommends to install strong fences and walls made out of metals or similar hard materials because nutrias cannot chew off them like it chews off wooden or Styrofoam structures and also mentions that it include low maintanence fee. In contrary, the lecturer refuses to accept the claim because nutrias known for its notorious behaviour of digging underground which makes the fences ineffective allowing them to enter the protected areas. Because of the security breach, the lecturer feels the measures may not succeed.
Secondly, it is suggested to dry up the drainage and use the water for farming since nutrias finds the water as an enticing place to habitat. But the lecturer does not agree with it because not all places involves farming and in places like that it cannot be applied. Eventhough we do dry up the drainage, we cannot afford to water the crops when it needs them. Since this measure hardening the process of human life, the lecturer does not encourage it.
Lastly, the passage states that nutrias are suitable for food claiming that they are rich in nutrients and do have surplus amount of proteins. Compared to beef which has 17 grams of protein per 100 grams, nutrias contain an average of 22 grams. The lecturer agrees with the fact but the lecturer is more worried about the health hazards it brings on the humans. They are known to contain bacteria and parasites which is not salubrious for humans. Also, they do contain pathaogesn which cause diseases like tuberculosis and more. They may also cause rashes, fever, weight loss, etc. As consumption of nutrias poses a threat on health, the lecturer discourage it.
These are the reasons why the lecturer's argument is not in line with the claim provided by the passage.
