summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard explaining how they challenge specific claims made in the reading passage.
In the lecture, the professor mentioned several points about the validity of the man’s memoir. The professor argues that the memoirs are indeed accurate as the man has written them. However, the author of the passage argues that the memoirs are not accurate and exaggerated. The professor’s lecture casts doubt on the reading by using a number of points that are contrary to the points stated in the passage.
The first point that the professor uses to cast doubt on the passage is the fact that properties that were sold then required time in order to retrieve the money. The author of the reading however stated that he would not have to borrow money if he was truly rich. The point made by the professor cast doubt on the reading because the man had to borrow money to throw parties while waiting for the money for his sold properties since it took time to receive payment for properties sold.
Another point that the professor uses is the fact that the man always wrote down the account of his conversation every night as much as he could remember. The passage contends that there was no way he could have remembered his conversations from years before he wrote the memoir. The professor however argues that witnesses could attest to his written conversations and how he regularly consults his notes.
Also, the professor mentioned another point about the escape from prison. The author believes that he must have paid his really powerful friends to bring him out of prison but the professor argues that other prisoners had even more powerful friends who could have freed them but could not free them. The professor also stated that it was confirmed by the government that the ceiling of his room in the prison had to be repaired after he escaped.
In conclusion, the professor made several points that contrast with the reading and demonstrate that the reading is in doubt.
