The main topic of both the reading and the talk is maintaining a human presence on Venus. The author claims that human presence on Venus would be impossible because of its extreme and inhospitable environment. The professor, on the other hand, casts doubt on every single point made by the author.
First, in contrast to the reading passage, which asserts that pressure at Venus' surface is greater than the pressure at Earth's surface, the lecturer states that this problem could be solved by establishing a floating station 50 kilometers above the Venus' surface. In that altitude, the pressure would be equal to normal pressure on the earth due to the physical fact. As a result, nothing will be crushed by high pressure on the surface of Venus.
Second, While the reading passage mentions that there is no resource of water and oxygen on the Venus, the professor believes that there are chemical procedures that can make water and oxygen using components of the Venus' surface such as carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. Therefore, water and oxygen could be produced through these chemical approaches.
Finally, According to the passage, the most significant part of the sunlight is reflected by the thick clouds and does not reach the planet's surface. However, the professor points out that though 50 kilometers above there are still clouds, they are not as thick as lower clouds. Therefore, sunlight could get through these clouds and reach the floating station. Moreover, the station could use both the reflected sunlight and direct sunlight, so more than needed electricity could be produced to power machines and equipment.
