In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that chalenges all the arguments presented in the reading passage. He states that in contrast to the author opinion about policy of making more taxes for unhealthy food and behavior like smoking do not necessary leads to social benefits.
First of all, she refutes the author's claim about discouragement to use that product.She states this policy might push more smokers who want to use it due to increase price to buy lower quality with lower price which could provide more health risk.
Moreover, she contradicts the reading about fairness of increasing tax for unhealthy behavior. She states taking account to the peoples income, increasing tax put more pressure on people with low income than high income and is not fair.
Lastly, she states more revenue for goverment as the reading points out has also downside. She says goverment obtains lots of money by this taxes and depend on it. Therefore they do not implement laws to limit them. For instance, all the preventions that take place during years like not to use smoking in public places would be eliminated.
