Tell what the lecturer feels about the passage.
The reading and passage are both about willingness of employees working four times a week for a less pay rather than working for five days a week. The author of the reading suggests that this policy would benefit the company and help them earn profits. The lecturer challenges this claim and believes that this will not help the workers in improvement of their lives or company profits in any way.
First of all, the author of the reading believes that the employees working four times a week will get rest and will be much more alert thus producing lesser errors. He claims that there will be no change in additional company costs in hiring new employees since the exiting worker's cost is cut down by three fourth. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer who thinks that hiring new people in the company will be an expensive since they have to be provided with initial training and medical costs of every individual has to be covered He claims that more office space and computers will also be required which will cut down on the profits that are essentially raised.
Secondly, the author suggests that there'll be a drop in unemployment rate since working fewer hours will shift the existing work to other people. The lecturer however rebuts this by mentioning that hiring is an expensive procedure. He elaborates this point by saying that the employees will be asked to work extra time since there will be an increased expectations and as a result, the current jobs might become unpleasant.
Finally, the author mentions that this policy can help improve the overall quality of life since the employees will be able to find extra time to spend on their hobbies, family and friends. In contrast, the lecturer is of the position that this will lead to decrease in job stability during economic crisis since they are working only four days a week. And employees who work more will be able to have a much secure job.
In conclusion, lecturer effectively casts doubt on all of the claims made by the author in the passage.
