The lecture and reading both discuss altruism. While the reading states that altruism is when a person or animal does not recieve recompense in put your own life in risk, the lecture refutes this, saying that the individual that pratice the altruism receives some benefits in doing that.
First of all, the reading claims that meerkats put their lifes in risk and avoid to eat, for example while stay in guard looking for predators. However the lecture argues that the sentinel meerkats do have benefits. Furthermore, the professor states that the sentinel meerkats eat before stay in guard, so he is with full stomach, and moreover hi is the first to run when see the predators, because he give the alarm and has the chance to run for the shelter while the other stay in danger.
In addition, the reading give another example where a stranger make a donation of body organs without earn something. The lecture counters this point by stating that person that make a donation earn the society ovationation. And some people this king of regonizing is important more than money.
