toefl integrated writing task

Author of the passage and lecturer have differing opinions about the accuracy and reliability of Chevalier's memoir. While the text says that Chevalier distorted many events and facts to make memoir interesting, lecturer provides enough shreds of shreds of evidence to negotiate the claims that memoir was inaccurate.

Text says that though Chevalier invested money in gambling, he borrowed it from the merchants. Lecturer denies it by saying Chevalier has a lot of wealth. He borrowed the money because he did not have enough amount of liquid money. It took time for him to convert his wealth to money.

Though the text agrees that Chevalier and Voltaire met regularly and conversed, it says conversations written were inaccurate due to the long gap that he took to include them in the memoir. But lecturer differs with it. Lecturer says that Chevalier used to write notes every night about the conversation between him and Volatire and kept those notes with him for many years. So, lecturer evidently points out that Chevalier consulted his notes before writing about the conversation in his memoir.

While the author of the passage claims that Chevalier escaped from the prison by bribing the officials, lecturer disagrees with it by saying there are many people in prison who had better political connections than Chevalier and they could not escape from the prison by bribing. Even the government records of venice recorded that ceiling of climbing was repaired which provides evidence to say Chevalier broke the ceiling with the metal piece.
