Torreya Taxifolia tree decline and migration

The reading and lecture are both about the decline of Torreya population in the state of Florida. The author of the reading talks about three ways to solve this crisis. These claims are challenged by the lecturer. She is of the opinion that the author provides no satisfactory solutions.

To begin with, the author argues that they can reestablish Torreya in the same location in which it burgeoned for thousand of years. The article mentions that Northen Florida's microclimate is very favorable to Torreya's growth. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. She notes that the climate is changig because of global warming and other causes. Additionally, she says that Torreya population would face dry climate, and could not have suitable condition to thrive.

Secondly, the author suggests that they cand solve the problem by moving Torreya to an entirely different location, far from its Florida climate. In the article, it is stated that Torreya probably thrived in areas much further north in the distant past,so by relocating it in a assisted migration, humans would simply help Torreya to survive. The lecturer, however, rebuts this claims by mentioning that the black-locust trees. She elaborates on this by bringing up the point that they spread too quickly to different location , so they are in danger of becoming extinct. As a result, this method is not good to prevent Torreya extinction.

Finnally, the author posits that preserving Torreya in reasearch centers would be good method. Morever, it is stated that seeds and saplings can be moved from the wild and preserved in a closely monitored enviroment. In contrast, the professor notes that Torreya could not be able to resist diseas. Additionally, she says that research centers do not have enough capacity to diverse species of Torreya.
