TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiring companies to offer their employees the option of working a four-day workweek for four-fifths (80 percent) of their normal pay would benefit the economy as a whole as well as the individual companies and the employees who decided to take the option.

The reading and the lecture are both about the benefits of 5 days work per week compared to 4 days work per week which is beneficial to the economy, company and the employee. The lecturer casts doubts about the claims made in the article. He thinks that the schedule chosen of the employee would not affect its performance.First of all, the author points out that a 4 day a week schedule would increase the company profits. It is mentioned that workers feel more rested and relax as a result fewer costly errors in the work force can occur. The point is challenged by the lecturer. He says company are forced to hire more employees will can increase in the cost in the company due to they have to undergone their employees into trainings and give workers medical benefits. Furthermore, He argues that if there are increase in number in the work force, the office space will also increase and less profits for the company will occur. Secondly, the author contends that the economy could benefit from 4 days a week schedule due there will be low unemployment rate in the country. The article notes that employees that has fewer working hours can shift the workload to other co-worker. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggest that 4 days week schedule is highly more costly for the company. He elaborates on this by mentioning that employer ask more overtime on the workers and have more expectation to produce the same amount of work done by the 4 days a week than in 5 days a week, he also added there is no added jobs for future employees and the current job is unpleasant. Finally, the author states that 4 days a week employee can enjoy more free time for themselves thus increasing their quality of life. The article establishes that employee can bond more with family members, pursue their private interest like leisure activity. The lecturer on the other hand, posits that it can risk the quality of life by having decrease in job stability and harm advancing career. He puts forth the idea that, there will numerous loss of jobs when the economy will hit the rock bottom and also pass the opportunity of promotion due to few working hours spent in the company.
