The reading and the lecture are both about the mandatory policy, which is companies required to offer their employees the option of working a four day workweek for four fifths of the normal pay. The author of the reading believes that the mandatory policy would help out.The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. He thinks that employees should work a five day week.
First of all the author points out that the shortened work week would increase company profits. It is mentioned that the employees would feel more rested and the result is they would make fewer mistakes in their work. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that if employees would work less than the profits would be lowered.
Finally the author states that an option of a four day workweek would be better for individual employees. The article establishes that employees who could afford more free time would be able to spend more time with family and have a better life. The lecturer rebuts this argument. She suggests that this way would cause to decrease job abilities and can lose employees jobs.
