Both the reading and the lecturer discuss how reducing working days from 5 days to 4 days per week can affect the company and the individual employees. While the author support this ideas, the lecturer casts doubt on this idea.
Firstly, the author mentioned that reducing working days to 4 days per week will increase company's profits. Indeed, the author explains that the workers will have enough time to rest and alert, which result into fewer errors at work. On the other hand, the lecturer disagrees with this idea by saying that the company will spend a lot of money. For instance, the company will spend money in training new workers which results into loss. Moreover, the company will need more computers for the new workers to use.
Secondly, the author asserts that hiring more workers will not cost a lot because the existing ones are paid 80 %, so there will be enough salaries for the new workers. In addition, the author said that the employment opportunities will increase because the workload of some workers will be shifted to new workers. However, the professor casts doubt on this idea by mentioning that instead of hiring workers is costly, the company can take another option of implying hard work to the existing workers, which would result into same yield as them working in 5 days. As a result, the jobs will not be available to new workers.
Finally, the author claims that employees will have benefits because their quality of lives will increase by spending enough time with their families, doing private interests, and having leisure activities. Contrary, the lecturer mentions that the risks will increase, which will decrease those workers' quality of life. Moreover, the workers will not get time to advance in their carriers because they will not know about promotions periods, and this may results into losing their jobs.
