The reading and the lecture are both about providing the employees the opportunity to choose between working for a typically five days a week or four day a week with 80 percent salary for the four day workers; which, is a crucial prospect with respect to the economy and the profit of the company. The author of the reading believes that the four day worker per week employee, always has the chance to use the extra time for developing his personal life. The lecturer costs a doubt on the claims made in the article. He thinks that the four days worker is more likely to lose their job, in addition to the negative effect of that on the profits of the company and the economy.
Firstly, the lecturer has expressed about his objection on the four day per week employee with respect to the following reasons: the option of working four days per week will cause hiring new staff with new offices and computers; which, will reduce the utility of the company. Moreover, the medical insurance for the employee will also increase the pressure. The Four day per week employee will lose the chance of having a stable job and developing his career.
Secondly, the reading passage author supports the mandatory policy that states on giving the opportunity for the employee to work for four day per week with 80 percent of the normal salary; which, will lower the rate of the unemployment by hiring one new employee corresponding to four employees working four days per week. Furthermore, the long weekend is helpful for more relaxing time that will decrease the percent of the errors that out from the employee under high pressure of work. The four day worker would use the the long holiday also in his personal relationships, like spend more time with his family and experiencing different things.
Finally, the four or five hour employee per week each one have its own pros and cons. For example, the four hour worker will have long holiday but less money and unstable work; while, the five hour employee will have more salary but small holiday, stressed life and more likely to have a stable job.
