TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

The lecture explained that the option which allows employees to work a four-day week for four-fifths of their normal pay is not benefic as what the reading passage stated. There are three following reasons.

First of all, according to the lecturer, the profits of the company do not change whether the employees decided to take four-day week or five days a week because the company must hire a new employee at the 80 percent rate. Furthermore, it will buy new computers and new office desk. so These additional costs will reduce the profit. This directly refutes the reading passage which states that company profits will increase because only 80 percent of payroll will be paid without no more staff.

Secondly, sometimes, company does not hire more staff and the employees must do same work in four days instead five day. In addition, the company can offer them to take overtime instead hiring because new employee must be trained. So this option has no effects to unemployment rates. This contradicts again what it states in the reading which states this option would reduce unemployment rates when the company hire new employee who will help them in their tasks.

Thirdly, having more time free by the option of working a four-day workweek is a big rick for employees because it reduces their job abilities and they can easily lose their job. In addition, they are less chance to be promoted and evolved in their career because only a person who works very hard is promoted. This highlights the big rick which is not mention in the reading passage which only stated about advantages of spending time with their families.

In conclusion, the option of working a four-day workweek for four-fifths of the normal day is sometimes risky for the employee. So employees must think very well before choosing.
