TPO-01 - Integrated Writing Task In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay inorder to do so. A mandatory policy requiri

Even though, the natural attitude of an employee is to argue that they have have a lot of work to do day by day, they don't spend much time with their families or even argue that they have no worthy social life, it is of concern for the speaker that a recent policy that provides four-day week to help avoid error prone and even unfocused employees in the United States is not doing them a great favor, on the contrary it might even be harmful for them on some level.

As implied by the speaker, this policy will spoil companies financial resources in hiring more employees during the time other employees are enjoying a four-day week job, which can obviously be a bigger concern for the companies managers who are looking for profits and are note getting the results they expect because of this extra cost. Unfortunately this can get very disturbing results when evaluating the previous year.

In addition to the previous, the speaker even predicted that free time won't be the best option for workers who are looking for better development in their current jobs, this can decrease jobs stability and employers can even put some barriers to those who want to apply for management positions, a method for companies to make these type of employees realize that not everybody can afford this kind of policy and expect to develop their career and succeed all at the same time.

Other features of this policy is to provide employees some extra time to spend with their families but expecting them to be paid eighty percent of their salary at the end of the month. This can be a serious issue, those who have family nowadays need their complete salaries to spend outdoor time with them, normally this happens when children are involved, but if salaries decrease the cost of family life decreases too. The speaker indicates that their jobs can be at risk in times of financial crisis so it might not be such a great idea.

Finally, in terms of the speaker doesn't see with good eyes this proposal, he even concludes that if workers work four days a week, companies may ask them to work overtime, this can be very conflicting as they can use speculation to keep the most interested employees in the company while disregarding the others. In this case, companies might not even create additional jobs to help the most interested. In the end it comes across this question: Is this policy the best solution?
