The article states that the portrait of the woman’s face could not represented Remabrandt work and provides three reasons of support. Conversely, the professor states that according to thorough examination on this portrait, it reveled that the portrait of elderly woman in the white bonnet is indeed Rembrandt work. She refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading avers that there is inconsistency about the woman in the portrait is dressed, such as she is wearing a white linen cap a king that only servant would wear, and at same time she is a waering a coat that has a luxurious fur collar. Since Rembrandit was known for his careful attention for details. However, the professor refutes this point by explaining that X-ray results have shown that there was an extra part added to the original portrait. This adding part is the fur collar and it was painted hundred years after its protraited by Rembrandt. The professor explains that the reason for doing so, it would increase its value by showing the artisocratic lady in the portrait. So, the portrait of an elderly woman in white bonnet is clearly Rembrandt work.
Second, the reading claims that Since Rembrandt was a master of light and shadow, these element do fit together in the paiting and thus its not Rembrandt work. The professor, on ther hand, opposess this point by saying that if we removed the adding part from the original portrait, the light and shadow completely fit togther. the woman in the original painting wore light colored clothes that reflect light. As a result the face became illuminated and without doubt the portrait was so realistioc and there was no error in these element. The professor concludes that this painting clearly demonstrates that it was painted by Rembrandt.
Thrid, teh back of painting reveals that it was painted on a panel made of several prices of wood glued together. And thus, its not Rembrandt Work. The professor disagrees with this point by stating that when the fur collar added to the original painting, these pieces of wood were added too. For the reason of enlarging its size, so it would become more valuable. Also, REsearchers have shown that a single wood pieces that examined was made from the same trees that was typically used by Rembrandit other paintings for example, a self protrait with a hat paiting. So, the professor concudes this paiting was indeed the Famous Rembrandit portrait.
