The author states that dinosaurs were endotherms, like humans who can keep their temperature in warm and cold weather conditions. However, professor rebuts this opinion, by representing three reasons as follows.
First of all, polar regions in the times of the existence of dinosaurs were not as much as cold like now. The polar regions were warmer than today and it was not required for dinosaurs to be endotherms to survive in these regions. Even in some parts where were colder, dinosaurs could migrate to the warmer region or they can be hydrated like modern lizards.
In addition, dinosaurs need legs under their body for their fast growth and the position of legs do not necessarily mean that they were endotherms. Whereas, the author mentions that because dinosaurs did not have side legs, like crocodiles, and instead they had legs under their body, they were endotherms. This reason cannot be justified for expressing that dinosaurs were endotherms as they also needed legs under their body to grow faster.
Finally, the professor argues that besides Harversian canals, there are growth rings in the dinosaurs which their body use for rapid growth. Growth rings means that dinosaurs can grow quicker at warmer temperatures while at colder temperatures there is not any growth or very slow growth rate. This option does not exist in endothermic mammals which can grow steadily in all temperatures ranges, because of Harversian canals which enable them to grow quickly and author thinks that dinosaurs only had these canals.
According to what professors mentions, it is justified to said that dinosaurs were not endotherms, in contrast to what the author mentions.
