According to the passage. Endotherms are animals that have internal body temperature of at least 37 degree Celsius even if they are on a colder region. However, the lecturer strongly doubts on the information presented in the passage about dinosaurs being endotherms.
According to the passage, there were some remains found in the Polar areas which illustrates that the dinosaurs were able to live and survive in colder atmosphere. However, the lecturer disagrees with this by stating the climate could have been different in that area during the time of dinosaurs. The colder region could have been warmer. It is evident by the migration patterns of the dinosaurs, that they used to migrate in order to survive the severe cold climate.
Secondly, the passage states that the leg placement and body movement demonstrate that the dinosaurs were able to quickly move from places rather than those of other reptiles such as crocodiles or lizards who have colder body temperature. However, the lecturer refutes this example by explaining that the positioning of legs was to support the giant body of dinosaurs and aids in their movement therefore, it has nothing to do in explaining the endotherm.
Lastly, the dinosaurs have a bone structure that aids in the making of special canals called haversian. These canals help in the rapid growth of dinosaurs that is considered to be an important characteristics of endothermy. However, the lecturer disagrees by saying that the canals help in thickening the structure but this does not ensure rapid growth of the dinosaurs because throughout the growth of the dinosaurs, there were times when they grew fast and there were times when they grew slow. It depends on their age as to what speed do they grow in.
Therefore, she opposes to all the evidence mentioned in the passage about dinosaurs being endothermic.
