Both the article and the lecture are about dinosaurs. The article states that new evidence has proved that dinosaurs were actually endotherms, and provides three reasons of support. The professor, however, casts doubt in the claims made in the article and refutes each of the author's claims.
First, the reading states that the presence of the dinosaur fossil in the polar region can prove the fact that dinosaurs were endotherms because only the endotherms could live in such environment. However, the professor refutes this point. She says that the dinosaurs lived in the polar region many years ago when the temperature was warmer than today. Moreover, during the colder weather dinosaurs were able to migrate to warmer areas or hibernate like other reptiles.
Second, the reading claims that the position of the dinosaur's legs in the bottom of their bodies differs from the other reptiles like crocodiles and similar to other endotherms, this is mean that dinosaurs were, in fact, endotherms. This point was challenged by the professor, she states that in contrary to other endotherms, the position of dinosaur legs is, indeed, to support their huge weight and not to help them in running.
Finally, the article posits that the presence of the Haversian canal in the dinosaur's bone which helps endotherms to grow rapidly is a good evidence to support the fact that these dinosaurs were actually endotherms. This point was challenged by the professor. She states that it is true that dinosaurs have this canal but besides to that they have the growth rings, which are thickening in the bones. Extensive studies of that rings indicate that the growth of the dinosaurs ceased during the cold climate and increase again when the weather becomes warmer. while the growth of the endotherms is continuous regardless of the external temperature. Accordingly, we can not say that dinosaurs belonged to endotherms.
In conclusion, the professor succeed to refute all the the arguments that made in the article.
