Both the article and the lecture are arguing about the fact that dinosaurs were endotherms. The article states, nowadays, dinosaurs are considered as endotherms and provides three examples of support. However, the professor casts doubt on the claims made in the article and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that the presence of dinosaur fossil in the polar region has proved that dinosaurs were actually endotherms because only the animal that can maintain their internal temperature is able to live there. The professor, however, rebuts this point. She states that during the earlier decades the temperature in the polar area was warmer, so, even the non-endotherms were able to live there. Moreover, dinosaurs were able to migrate to warmer places when the weather became very cold.
Second, while the article claims that the position of dinosaur's legs are a good indicator to prove that dinosaurs belonged to endotherms family, the professor, on the other hand, refutes this point. She says that the position of the leg, indeed, is aimed to support the large size of the dinosaur and they were not used for running like the other endotherms. besides, the huge weight of the dinosaur has many advanteges for the animal.
Finally, the reading posits that the presence of Haversian canal in the dinosaur's bone can be a good evidence to conclude that dinosaur was endotherm, due to the fact that presence of this canal indicates rapid growth which is one of the characteristics of the endotherms. This point was challenged by the professor. She states that it is true that this canal is found in dinosaurs legs but they also have growth rings which are thickening of the bone that indicates the rate of growth. this rings prove that the growth of dinosaur subside in cold climate. and this refutes the claim made in the article.
