In the reading passage was made several points as a possible explanation of predestination of the Chaco “great houses”. However, in the lecture the professor rebuts all the teories and suggests an explaination why he thinks this way.
According to the reading passage, the “great housе” could be enormous residentials similar to the “apartment building” at Taos. Nevertheless, the Professor asserts that It doesn’t seem right because the quantity of fire places wasn’t enough for warming up hundreds of famalies.
The second assumption is that the Chaco houses probably could serve as a storage for the food supplies. However, the professor casts doubt on this theory either. He considers that no traces of crops was found in the building or near them. Besides, containers and food packages was also absent inside the “great houses”.
Finally, A third theory proposes that house was used as a ceremonial centers, but this conclusion scarcely could be consider as a truth. The professor argues that in the comparison with the Pueblo Alto houses, the Chaco places doesn’t contain any specific material such as sand and stones. Moreover, the pots, found near to the building, could be just a useless trash.
To wrap up, the professor considerations contradicts with the all three teories made in the reading passage.
