The article states that the communal online encyclopedias might seem attractive but, it has several problems which made it less valuable and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor of the lecture explains that these reasons are not perfect and emphasize the idea.
First, the reading states that the communal online encyclopedia often lacks of academic credentials as they are treated as inaccurate. But, the professor refutes this point by stating that the traditional encyclopedia also has errors and mistakes. Moreover, he states that those errors on the traditional printed encyclopedia remain unedited for decades.
The article claims that the data of online encyclopedia might be fabricated, deleted or corrupted by hackers. But, the lecture opposes this point by saying that online encyclopedia uses different kinds of protection. Furthermore, he states that there is a read-only version which prevents users to change it. He also states that there are special editors who constantly supervise the changes and prevent unwanted editions.
Third, the reading avers that online encyclopedia only contains popular topics in a trivial manner. But, the lecture criticizes traditional encyclopedia by stating that as it has limited spaces, the academic only includes important things and sometimes, the author’s interest influence the encyclopedia. He also states that the online encyclopedia has the diversity of data everyone has access to it. He pointed out it as a great advantage of the online encyclopedia.
In Sun, the author of the reading states three reasons for the disadvantage of the online encyclopedia and the lecture successfully refutes it.
