The reading and lecture are both about memoir of chevalier, which is on his life and adventure. The author of reading believes that he distorted many incorrect events to make his life seems very excited. The lecturer casts doubt on the claim made in the article. He thinks that memoir is possible correct based on history resource.
First of all, the author points out that in his memoir Chevalier asserted, he is very wealthy spending on parties and gamble. It is mention that he would have not borrowed money if he was very rich according to evidence. This point is challenged by lecturer. He says that borrowed money doesn’t indicate he was poor. Furthermore, he argues that because of gambling Chevalier came out of cash, thus he sold his properties to Swiss merchant.
Secondly, the author contends that critics complain accuracy of the conversations between Chevalier and famous writer Voltair in the memoir. The article notes that it is impossible to capture the exact phrases of conversation which happened many years earlier. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He suggests that Chevalier notes down everything he remembered after meeting with Voltair and refer to it while writing the memoir.
Finally, the author state that critics questioned on Chevalier escaped from prison. The article establishes that he had political well-contact to bribe him out of prison. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that hard to bribe in prison even though other prisoner had more powerful political contact to bribe them, thus he escaped through ceiling that’s why the government had to repaired it.
In conclusion, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all the claims and theories present in the reading.
