The reading and lecture both discuss the idea of using the fuel-cell engines instead of the traditional internal-comustion engine. While the reading states three advantages of using the fuel-cell engine, the professor refutes, saying that hydrogen engine could not be the solution.
Firstly, the article clamis that the internal-cobustion engine depends on petroleum which is a finite resource, but the fuel-cell engine depends on hydrogen which is unlimited resource. One the other hand, the speaker argues this notion by saying that we cannot find hydrogen for the cars easily as the hydrogen in the water. He mentions that hydrogen should be in a pure liquid status. Also, this process is a highly artificial process and very difficult procedures. In addition, we have to storage this hydrogen in a very cold palce, this is required a very specific cooling technique. So, these manufacture procedures are not practically.
In addition, the reading shows that hydrogen-based fuel cells are more beneficial because they will end many of the polltion problems. This is because they byproduct is water. However, the professor rejects this by pointing out that using the hydrogen- cells fuel could not solve this problem because the manufacture of this hydrogen produce high pollution. In addition, the purification process needs oil burning which increase the pollution. So, the factory that produce hydrogen will pollute the country.
Lastly, the reading avers that fuel-cell engine has a good compatitive price. Neverthelss, the professor refutes saying that the manufacture of hydrogen is very expensive. This manufacture needs platinum which is so expensive. Moreover, we cannot produce this hydrogen without this material. In addition, using any other materials in the manifacture process so far unsuccessful.
