Car manufacturers and governments are seeking the replacement of internal combustion engine with hydrogen based engine. Paragraph states the advantages of the hydrogen-based-fuel-cell over the internal combustion engine in terms of pollution, availability and economically cheap. Whereas, lecture casts doubt on the explanation mentioned in the paragraph.
Firstly, paragraph states that hydrogen is available easily for hydrogen based fuel cell in compare to petroleum because hydrogen is renewable source of energy which can be obtained from water and natural gas. Contrary to this opinion, lecture says that in spite of availability of hydrogen in water and natural gases, hydrogen based engine can not use this direct hydrogen from renewable sources. It requires pure liquid hydrogen which can be prepared artificially which is difficult to produce and difficult to store. It requires cold storage with -200 degree Celsius temperature.
Secondly, paragraph depicts that hydrogen based fuel engine is environment friendly as byproduct of this engine is water which does not create pollution. Contrary to this point, lecture explains that automobiles having hydrogen based engine are not creating pollution but production of hydrogen based engine creates lot of pollution. Liquid hydrogen creation from water and gas in factories require burning of coal and oil which is indirectly creating pollution to the environment.
Thirdly, paragraph states that hydrogen based engine is more efficient and economic in compare to internal combustion engine. Casting doubt on the explanation mentioned in the paragraph, lecture states that hydrogen based engine is more costlier because components of the engine requires platinum which is very costly and rare metal. Replacement of platinum from other metals in hydrogen based fuel engine shows unsuccessful results.
