As said in the passage, the shortened work-week would increase company profits because employees would feel more rested and alerted and as a result, they would make fewer costly errors in their work. This fact is not reliable because the workers would progress more slowly and they may become idle and loose the chance to get promotions.
Hiring more stuff to ensure that the same amount of work would accomplish would result in additional payroll costs. This cost will be comprised of different issues like training costs, health insurance, more office space and computers. In other words a four-day worker’s medical care is as much as a five-day worker.
For the country as a whole, not only a four-day work-week will not reduce unemployment rate but also it would influence on the job loss. The employees offered a four-day work-week are the most likely people to lose their job. Indeed, this option makes more jobs available. As a result, the employees would be more willing to leave their current job and look for a new one.
Finally, the option of a four-day work-week would increase the risk and decrease life quality. The four-day work week employees will be passed over for the promotions because the companies would prefer a five day work week for the manager position for the reason of more continuous work hours and consistency.
