Reading talks about pollution hypothesis which play an important role in declination of sea otter in the past years. The lecturer, on the other hand casts doubts on all claims mentioned in the article.
First of all, the article states oil rigs and industrial chemical pollution were source in Alaskan coast which contaminate the sea water which decrease the otters' resistance to life threatening infection. however, the lecture refuse this no one can find any dead sea otter if infection caused by pollution started killing otter. He argues by looking over to predators hypothesis the otter is killed by predators.
Second, the writer states that environmental pollution effect on entire ecosystem than a single species. Endangered otter also affected in numbers of other sea mammals such as seals and sea lion as well. On contrary, the lecture claims that whales are disappeared from area because of humans.
Finally, the article suggests that scientists believed that environmental factors could also adverse impact on declination of otter. However, the professor says predator hypothesis has more effect rather than pollution hypothesis. He puts forth that predators could greatly decreased the quantities of otter except in shallow location totters' quantity would not decline.
