Essay topics:

TPO 11 - Integrated : a decline in reading the literature

The reading enumerate three averse effects of the declining of literature. however, the lecturer expresses opposition on all of them.
Firstly, the passage cites the benefits of reading literature and claims that public would lose these benefits without reading literature. The lecturer, on the contrary, suggests that reading other genre such as science journals would also yield people these benefit. Stop reading literature does not mean that public could not obtain intellectual stimulation.
Secondly, the passage declares that people nowadays turn to self-help books or television instead, which are often superficial. In contrast to that, the lecturer thinks there are plenty of cultural forms nowadays which are more direct than literature. Listening to a good music or watching a nice movie is not wasting people's time.
Thirdly, the passage points out that there are many good literature writters today, but lack support of the publishers because of the decrease in number of readers. The lecturer, however, attribute the lacking support of writers to themselves instead of readers. Modern literature intends to be difficult to understand, and even the old literature readers would not read them.
To conclude, the lecturer disagree with the reading totally and rebutes all the arguments of it.
