The passage corrrelates the decline in the literature reading with lowering of the level of culture in general. However, the speaker in the lecture doesn't agree with this. She says that decline in the reading of literature may have other reasons but it is not related to lowering of the level of culture.
Firstly, according to the lecture, literature is not the only source of intellectual stimulation as per the passage. Speaker says that well written books on science, politics and history also are intellectually stimulating. So, the current culture is using other ways for intellectual stimulation other than literature.
Secondly, the speaker mentions that listening to music and watching a good movie may make the people more creative and this in turn will will increase the level of culture instead of lowering it. She says that using various sources to develop creativity is better than using just one source.
Thirdly, the speaker states that it is not the fault of the people that they read less literature nowadays. This is because the literature in modern times is written in a way which is very difficult to understand. She says that even the people in earlier days would have had difficulty in reading and understanding modern literature. So it is the fault of the authors that they are getting less readers now.
In this way, the lecture concludes that decline in the literature reading is not the readers fault and it is not lowering the level of culture.
