Question: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made reading passage.
reading less literature effects reading public
The listening and the reading materials have a debate on why inclination for literature books is declining in compare with the past. The penman puts 3 main hypotheses, which are refuted by the following orator.
First of all, the writer suggests that literature sharpen our minds and without it reading public extremely deteriorates. On the other hand, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to her, intellectually thinking is not related only to literature. Other scientific matters are intriguing and have a stimulating role in human's thoughts.
The second point offered by the author is that not only what people read is critical but also how they spend their time is important. They devote their time to cheep kind of activities that damages the culture. On the contrary, the professor casts doubt on this assumption by saying that culture is changing through the time and stuffs like movie, music, etc. are a form of a culture.
Last, the reading passage proposes that if the rate of reading decreases, the rate of author's writings will diminish too. Because they lose their motivations for producing master pieces. However, the lecturer holds a different view. She explains that mitigating reading speed is due to author's fault, because they write difficult to understand books.
In all, the ideas mentioned in the speech counter the opinions in the text in that less reading the literature books specially by juvenile does not affect to culture.
