The lecture and the reading passage discuss face of Jane Austen, who was one of the most famous of all English novelists. Although the passage claims that a portrait which belongs to the Austen family is a portrait of the Jane Austen, the speaker refutes this idea through several reasons which I will describe in this reporter.

First and foremost, the passage points out that Austen extended family had used this portrait as an illustration in an edition of her letters, the professor rejects this by claiming thatJun was dead in 1882, and portrait have been painted 70 years after she was dead. Therefore, it hardly belongs the Jane Austen.

Furthermore, unlike the passage which state that this portrait as similar to Cassandra's sketch; hence, it may belong to the Jane Austen. However, the professor argues that it is true the subject of painting the same as Cassandra's sketch. But, their family was large, and they had a lot of teenager and children. This portrait belongs to the Marianne Kempian who was nice of Austen.

Finally, although the passage says that Ozias Humphrey may be the painter of that portrait, and he was working in the period when Jane Austen was at the same age as the girl in the painting. The speaker disagrees by mentioning that a stamp in the back of the painting shows that the canvases were bought from William Leg, and in his working period Jane was about twenty-seven years old which is much older than the age of the girl in the painting.
