TPO 13
The lecture mainly contradics the author's arguments starting that the bussiness around fossils is an unfortunate problem for the society. The professor doesn'e believe that the problem is as critical compared to what the passage portraits, and refutes each of the author's reasons.
Foremost, the reading states that people can not have access to private collections to observe fossils. The professor, however, assesses this points by stating that there are still many intresting fossils for public exhebitions, and the fossils are not as scarce as the author believes. The professor addes that thanks to the collectors many fossibls are available, to illustrate her idea; This palinly shows that, even with less budget, institutes can buy many fossils for both science and public's satisfaction.
According to the article, scientics miss important infomation, because they can not purchase many fossils. In contrast, the professor says that fossils' values are determined by researchers; in facts, they are passed through scientic community. She concedes that final destination of many fossils is the house of collectors, but this does not mean that scientific community is missing information about those fossils.
Finally, the author wraps her argument positioning that many data about the origins of fossils destroys by commercial collectors. The professor says that this claim is problematic; this is because, if collectors were not collecting fossils, there would not have been as many as fossils compared to now. According to the professor, many fossils would not have been found without the commertial discovery groups; therefore, these minory mistakes are acceptable.
To sum tp, both teh author and the lecturer hold conflicting ideas about the commercial collector's position in fossils' discovery. they have hard time finding common ground about the issue.
