The reading and the lecture are both about the fossils of large and rare animals. The author of the reading states that fossils of dinosaurs and large vertebrates are sold to private owners for huge amounts of money where general public and scientists may lose them and provides three reasons for support. However, the lecturer explains that the development of selling fossils would not be a loss to people and the scientists.
First, the article conveys that the people would have a great loss because if the fossils were donated to the museum then there is a chance for them to visit the museum. But fossils were sold to private owners they would not allow the people to see the fossils of dinosaurs which are rare. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that if there is a chance to purchase the fossils then schools and library's can buy those fossils where they can display to the children and the public.
Second, the text explains that scientists could have lost the important discoveries of the extinct species. Moreover, rich buyers can buy the fossils where scientists and universities can not afford to buy them. Nevertheless, the professor opposes this point by saying that scientists will not miss out on the potential to discover because scientists first identify, tests, and examine the fossils. Consequently, fossils were passed to private collectors with the help of scientists.
Third, buyers may damage the scientific evidence because they were not very much interested in fieldwork. However, the professor claims if commercial fossil collectors pay no attention to fossils, simply lots of them would not be discovered yet.
