TPO-15 - Integrated Writing Task

The article states that the spreading of the cane toad in Australia should be stopped and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that the elimination of these frogs by the means that the article had presented is not safe and could cause unwanted damage and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading posits that they should build a national fence to inhibit these frogs from entering the area. The professor refutes this point by stating that it may prevent the adult one to enter but as the young toads are in the stream, the flow will carry the eggs inside. thus it will not be effective for this case.

Second, the article claims that people could voluntarily capture and destroy these frogs as a way to control the number of them which are entering the ground. However, the professor contends that untrained volunteers would kill many native frogs, especially the frogs which are already in danger of extinction as young cane toads are much like other kinds that mentioned before.

Third, the reading avers that researchers could develop a virus that can cause disease to control the cane toad population. The lecturer opposes this point by saying that it will damage the habitat where the cane toads are living. Besides, as these toads are transported to another part of the world like America for migration or science projects the virus can attack and destroy many other creatures that are living there.
