The author of the reading passage talks about the serious consequences of constructing buildings and limitations faced by the archaeologists to preserve the important old artifacts in Britain in twentieth century. He mainly stresses on three major problems but the speaker refutes the points mentioned in the passage for the following reasons.
First, author states that the due to the new construction in cities, builders destroyed many valuable artifacts. In contrast, lecturer says that according to the new guidelines of the government the construction site has to be examined by the expert archaeologist to look for if it is archaeologically important and for any precious artifacts. Therefore, now it is not possible for any builder to cause damage to these sites and to precious artifacts.
Second, the passage tells that there is no sufficient funding for investigating all important projects. On the contrary, the speaker explains that as per the new guidelines the construction company has to pay for all the expenses that includes the site examination, to preserve the precious artifacts if any. Hence, now financial independence is provided to the archaeologists to explore and preserve all significant sites.
Third, the reading mentions that there are not enough jobs archeological field that compels many good archaeologist to choose a different career. On the other hand, the lecturer rebuts this idea and suggests that as the construction company has to pay, so, many archaeologists are being hired by these companies.
