Both the passage and the lecture relate to Torreya taxifoha trees which are at the risk of extinction. On the one hand, the passages mentions that researchers have found some ways to keep the trees from disappearing and gives three reasons supporting of these ways while, the lecture refutes all reasons by saying that unfortunately the ways do not provide satisfactory solutions.
First of all, the passage states that rebuilding the trees in places where include the same conditions of their first habitat. In contrast, the lecture opposes this point by pointing out those places have b affected by global warming and have become dryer and warmer than previous. In fact the trees need to survive in micro-climate.
In addition, the passage goes on to state that transporting the trees to further north parts of the country where have highly low temperature. However, the lecture emphasizes that the outcomes of moving the trees to a new environment are unpredictable. The lecture also mentions that some nonnative species spread quickly and put the native species in a danger or kill them.
Last but not least, the passage asserts that keeping the trees seed and sapling in the research center since the place provide suitable condition for growing. Conversely, the lecture disputes this point by claiming that the wild places are more satisfied for the trees since they become large and genetically diverse. So, they will be able to resist to diseases. While in the center they cannot survive to diseases in a long term because there is not enough capacity in the center that allows them to grow completely.
