TPO-15 - Integrated Writing Task The cane toad is a large (1.8 kg) amphibian species native to Central and South America. It was deliberately introduced to Australia in 1935 with the expectation that it would protect farmers' crops by eating harmful insec

Both the passage and the lecture relate to the control the number of cane toad population in Australia. On the one hand, the passage mentions three ways that are helpful in taking over the population of the cane toad, while the lecture refutes all these reasons by saying that these ways will have many negative effects on the environment and opposes what that passage proclaims.

First of all, the passage states that making a national fence could be a way to keep the cane toads population from growing up. In contrast, the lecture disagrees with this point by explaining that the young cane toad and toad’s eggs locate in the river. They are able to get through the fence by flowing water from one side to another. Therefore, creating a fence is not an efficient way.

In addition, the passage goes on to say that the government should conduct a campaign in order to collect the cane toads and their eggs. In that way, they can remove them from the environment. However, the lecture emphasizes that volunteers who are untrained will hurt other animals like native frogs as well.

Last but not least, the passage asserts that scientists try to control the toad cane population by imposing a type of disease-causing virus on them. Conversely, the lecture disputes this point by claiming that the toad canes are transported by researchers or pet collector to other parts of the country. So, the virus will be spread in the all parts due to the whole ecosystem will be infected.
