TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States, birds in particular. Unfortunately for b

The reading and lecture both discuss the effect of increase the human settlement on the birds populations. While the reading provides three reasons to support the negative effect of the increase of human populations on the bird's habitats, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.

Firstly, the reading states that the increase of human growth will be the cause of disappear of many wetland. So, many birds will decrease. On the other hand, the speaker argues this notion by saying that increasing the urban area will affect some birds but not all the species. For example, foxs and hocks will find new city to live in. As a result, their populations will increase in future. So, increasing the human populations will cause increasing for some populations and shrinking for others.

In addition, the article avers that increasing the human population's needs increasing in agricultural area. So, the bird habitats will d in the future. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this point by saying that increasing the agriculture in the future is a true story, but the United States use less and less land every year for agriculture. Moreover, introduction of new crops will add new food for birds. So, it is a good opportunity for bird populations to grow.

Finally, the reading shows that increasing the population will need increasing in agriculture. Consequently, more pesticides will be used. So, many birds will die due to contaminated water and food. However, the professor questions this idea by pointing out this is incorrect point. This is because people in future will be more aware of using the pesticides. For instance, first of all, new much less toxic pesticides will be in the market. Second, people will grow pesticides resistant crops which are less attractive to insects. So, pesticides will not affect the bird's growth in the future.
