TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States, birds in particular. Unfortunately for b

The reading and the lecture discuss the destruction of pesticide to wildlife in the U.S from different perspectives. The lecture seems to negate all the reasons that the article has mentioned.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that the expansion of human populations declines the natural habitats of birds. This point is challenged by the lecture. He restates that fact that urban growth provides better place for birds. In fact there are many kinds of birds, such as haws and pigeons have been increasing tremendously in cities.
Secondly, the author of the reading contends that increase of agricultural activities cause the decline bird population in rural areas. The lecture rebuts this point with the fact that nowadays the agricultural products have increased, but not because of the reason asserted in the passage. Actually, Americans do not crop as much as before. Their land is used fewer than it was in the past. Therefore, the reason that the article complained is incorrect.
Finally, the author of the reading states that because the development of agriculture, the use of chemical pesticides will increase. As a result, the poisons can get into the water and food chain, which harm birds. The lecture, on the other hand, opposes this idea with the fact that in the past pesticides used to harm birds, but now people are aware of this problem. So, they develop a kind of pesticides that contains less toxic and it only affects crops it is ineffective pets. Therefore, this pesticide does not harm birds at all.
