Birds'decline in united state

The listening and the reading materials have a debate on what has caused the population of birds reduction in the united State. The penman puts forward 3 main hypotheses, which are refuted by the following orator.

First of all, the writer proposes that habitat of birds are reducing because of human's increasing population and their need for more buildings and establishments. On the other hand, the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle. According to her, urban expanding provides better and larger areas for birds. For example, the number of pigeons in the streets are increasing now. If population of some species are shrinking, other ones are growing.

The second point offered by the author is that needing more land for agriculture diminishes the bird's habitat. On the contrary, the professor casts doubt on this assumption by saying that due to new technology for increasing crop efficiency, less and less in used farmland exist each year. As a result, there is no need for usage of new land.

Last, the reading passage suggests that more need to pesticides used in agricultural activities and other chemicals pollute water and environment. Thus, they indirectly damage to birds. However, the lecturer holds a different view. She explains that awareness among people has increased in 2 ways. First, new and much less pesticides are using for producing crops. Second, pest-resistance crops are developing now that do not need to pesticides. In addition, they do not harm birds at all.

In all, the ideas mentioned in the speech counter the opinions in the text according above reasons.
