TPO-18 - Integrated Writing Task
Both the reading and the lecture discuss the method to stop declinig of the Torreya tree. According to the article, the author provides three methods by which scientist would be able to control the extinction of Torreya, namely reestablish torreya in the same location which is flourished, plant torreya in different location named as a assistan migration, and preserve it in research center. On the contrary, all three method are rejected by professir in the lecture, Moreover, the profeesor says that non of three ways are a sastifaction solution and adds her points of view.
Firstly, the reading passage points out that by reestablishing the Torreya in its own location experts can stop its extiction. The lecturer, however, casts doubt on this claim by saying that this method is unlikely to be successful beacuse thenorthern part of Florida is strongly affected by changing in climate. Moreover, global warming increases the temperature in that region and makes the region a dryier site which unlikely to have a suitable condition for Toreyya to thrive. As a result, reestablishing the Torreya in its own location would not be a proper solution.
Secondly, the author claims that moving the Torreya into a new location which is defined as assisted migration result in helping Torreya to thrive in that condition. The professor, by contrast, refutes this method by providing an example of Black Local tree which was moved to north through assisted migration. This tree spread quickly in that region an consequently killed some natural tree which some of them are endager of extiction. Therefore, assisted migration may have a unpredicted outcome which is harmful for environment.
Finally, the article avers that preserving the Torreya tree in a research center help the tree to thrive because experts can protect and conduct reserch on it. The speaker, on the contrary, rejects this method by arguing that this method is not a proper solution and is not able to cure disease. additionally, the torreya tree is large genetically diverce species and the research centers have not enough capacity to place them. Furthermore, The research centers are no caple of finding diseases and solve them in long term.
