The reading and lecturer discussing about how to protect the Torreya trees from declining it's population but in very contrasts ways. The professor refutes the all points made in the reading passages.
Firstly, reading says that micro climate will be feasible for growing these trees because still north part of the Florida still wet and coolest, So, planting the seeds will assist the tree grow in the tampest area of northern part in order prevent declining of it's population. But, the lecture refuses that because of global warming this place already became dry. So, he states that it is not suitable place to grow these trees.
Secondly, passage claims that migrating the tree far to north the forest of the Florida by sapling the seeds, so that, entire state gets more of these trees everywhere like earlier. Again, the speaker opposes this point by stating with one example that the black locus tree which caused so many problems for the native species. Like that, migration of Torreya's seeds also will lead to the same problem and it is dangerous the plants which are the already, like competing for resources.
Thirdly, reading argues that keeping wild seeds in large amount in research and looking for feasible environment by analysing it will help the scientist to preserve these trees in large area of the state. Still, the professor contrasts this statement by saying that when the trees are there in original place, it gives the resistance the diseases whereas keeping the seeds in lab cannot develop resistance against the diseases because there is genetic capacity to prevent when it lab environment. So, they cannot survive in long term. Further, keeping large amount seeds highly impossible due to lack space.
