There is an strategy to supress forest fires called "let it burn" that is criticizes in the passage. The aim of the lecture is to defend this strategy and answer to the concerns related to it.
First, it is stated that the natural forest fires have a lot of advantages. For example, one can consider vegitation. Firing can provide the opportunity of growing new types of plants. As an example, some seeds can grow only in high temprature and firing may help growing these kinds of seeds.
Second, it is also applicable for animal life. Changing the environment would affect on the animal species that can survive. For instance, small length plants that is caused by firing, are very appropriate for rabits and hares. As a consequense, firing would provide the opportunity of living new species like rabits and hare. The increase in the population of these new animals results in the increase of their predators as well.
Finally, another concern about "let it burn" strategy is due to its effect on tourism. Generally it might affect the tourism if such events like Yellowstone happen every year but in fact, it only happened once in 1988.
In conclusion, let it burn strategy not only suppress the forest fires but also has lots of benefints in plant and animal species life.
