According to the reading passage, in 1988 forest fire in Yellowstone has negative impact on plants, animals and local economy. Whereas, according to the lecture, the speaker provides positive effect on plant and wild life after forest fire in Yellowstone in the United States. He contradicts each point made in the article.
First, the lecturer argues the first point made in the reading passage that, fire caused extensively harm to the trees and smaller plant were burn completely. Also, less than half land had been scorched. He mentions that scorched area help to colonize new plants and diverse them. Before the fire, small plants cannot grow because of shed by the large tree but after the fire, small plant chance to grow under light. Some seeds are not germinated without higher heat but this seeds were germinated after fire.
Second, the lecturer also refutes the second point made by the article that under fire large animal flee and smaller animal not escaped. In fact, devastated habitats and destroyed food chain after impossible to wild life survived in this area. He explains that animals had new opportunities to habitats in this area because of growing of small plants eat by the ideal animal such as rabbits and hairs. These animals had predators so, food chain become stronger.
Third, the article emphasizes that fire caused decrease the tourist attraction and negative effect on local economy. The lecturer, in contrast, implies that if, the forest fire took place every year then, decrease the visitor but it is not happened. It is rare things that low rainfall, storms, and stronger winds caused by fire but it is not possible every year. So, visitor comeback next year after forest fire and not largely impact on economy.
