The article states the disadvantages of the let it burn policy when deal with wildfire, especially after the Yellowstone park fire and it's tremendous damage. However, the professor refutes all the disadvantages. He says that the fire had a creative effect in the ecological system not only destructive.
First of all, the article mentions the tremendous damage happened to park's trees and vegetation. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that new plant colonization have been found after the fire, which lead to more diverse and an opportunity for a new plant like new smaller plants that needed unshaded space, and new kind of seeds that needed hight level of heat to grow.
Secondly, the author of the reading states the effect of fire on animal, as it would cause destruction of habitats and disruption of food. This point is rebutted by the lecturer. She suggests that the fire would have created new opportunity for animals. She elaborates on this by mentioning that new smaller plant would have created a new habitat to certain animal like rabbits and hairs, which had attracted new predator looking for food.
Finally, the author points out that the fire have negatively affected the local economy because the tourist season cut short, and it had affected all business based on park visitors. The lecturer, On the other hand, states that it would affect economy if it happened every year. She puts forth the idea that this fire was so massive because the rain season was very low and the wind was so strong this year. In addition, the fire did not happen again and the visitors came in the next year after the fire
