The reading and the lecturer are both about the genetically modified trees. The author of the reading states that by changing the genes and characteristics of the trees one can get good results and provides three reasons for support. However, the lecturer says that there are many problems with genetically modificated trees and refutes each of the author's points.
The article claims that genetically modified trees will have the greater chance of survival than unmodified trees. Furthermore, she provided an example of banana trees in Hawaii, which were affected by ringspot disease. On the other hand, the lecturer refutes this point by saying that uniform exposes to the climate change and environment for the genetically modified trees will wipe the trees. Moreover, he says they were not more resistant than unmodified trees.
Second, the text conveys that because of genetically modified trees one can get more economic benefits. Nevertheless, the lecturer opposes this point by saying that the cost to buy these trees is also more because the persons who grow these trees should pay to the company.
Third, the reading posits that by using genetically modified trees one can prevent the over exploitation of wild trees because the demand for wood and timber has grown, and destruction of forests is increased. This can be reduced by planting genetically modified trees. However, the professor says that these trees will cause damage to the other wild trees because they compete for the resources like sunlight and water along with the natural trees.
