tpo 22: replacing gasoline with ethanol

The lecturer disputes the author suggested theory that ethanol is a not a good alternative to gasoline to produce energy. He provides three concrete reasons to cast doubt about the author's claims.
First, according to the text ethanol may trap heat and causes global warming because it releases carbon dioxide into the air. However, the lecturer finds this idea debatable. He contend that indeed ethanol production may reduce global warming because growing corn consumes carbon dioxide from air and releases oxygen to the atmosphere which may contribute to a decrease in the elevated temperatures.
Second, the lecturer contradicts the fallacy of the passage that the consumption of corn for energy may reduce the amount of food available for animals because animals feed on corn. However, the lecturer argues that theoretically speaking ethanol production has no effect on animal food supply. He contends that the availability of food for animals will not be affected because animals do not feed on cellulose which is the part used for the production ethanol.
Finally, the author claims that the cost of production of ethanol for energy is high compared to the cost of production of gasoline. Again, the lecturer refutes this claim by stating that the cost of production will decrease as larger amounts of ethanol is produced. According to the lecturer a study have shown that a three time increase in the production of ethanol would significantly reduce the cost of production by forty percent.
