TPO-24 - Integrated Writing Task Animal fossils usually provide very little opportunity to study the actual animal tissues, because in fossils the animals' living tissues have been largely replaced by minerals. Thus, scientists were very excited recently

Based on the reading material, it is stated that there are viable reasons scientists believe that the fossilized leg bone of T.rex, a dinosaur, contains remains of the actual tissues of the animal. However, the lecturer finds this idea bereft of sufficient reasoning and represents some ideas to the contrary.
Initially, the author argued that the presence of a soft, legible substance inside the bone's branching channels may represent the remains of the blood vessels of T.rex . That being said, the lecturer repudiated this idea by clarifying that long after a dinosaur is dead, some bacteria will colonize hollows in the bones and often leave behind traces of a chemical material. Thus, it stands to reason that the presence of the soft substance inside the fossil cannot be a clue for the blood vessels of T.rex.
Another point mentioned in the reading passage was that microscopic examinations revealed the presence of spheres, which might be related to the red blood cells. However, the lecturer rejected this one too by stating that scientists have found fossils of other primitive animals, which had no red blood cells, in the same area. So, these spheres must be in red color for a different reason, like a reddish mineral or something like that.
The final point advanced in the reading passage was that the existence of collagen in the fossil may represent remains of bone tissues of T.rex . Yet again, the lecturer casted doubt on this idea. He said that collagen cannot last more than 100,000 years, whereas the fossil belongs to seventy million years ago. So, there must be another explanation for the presence of the collagen in the bone. The professor cites that human's skin has a plethora of collagen, thus the collagen may have come from the skin of the researchers to the fossil sample.
