TPO-25 - Integrated Writing Task In 1938 an archaeologist in Iraq acquired a set of clay jars that had been excavated two years earlier by villagers constructing a railroad line. The vessel was about 2,200 years old. Each clay jay contained a copper cylin

The articles states that it is not likely that the ancient vesseles found in Iraq were used as electric batteries and provides three reasons of support. The professor explains that the statements given it the passage are not convincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the reading posits that if the vessle were used as batteries, there would have been an lelectricity conductior attached to it. The professor refutes this point by saying that since the vessles were found by local people and not by professional archaeologists, it is possible that there were acctually other materials nearby the vessel like, wires and things like that, but since they were not intresting to the local people the did not bother to collect them and they were just throwen away.

Second, the article claims that the copper cylinders inside the jars look exactly like copper cylinders discovered in Seleucia, which were used for holding scrolls of sacred text. However, the professor contends that even though they were simillar, but it does not mean that they were not used as a electrical device. She states that it is known that in ancient times, people used iron, liquid and coppor to creat electrical current. And also, she explains that in those times, sometimes people used some devices other than their original porpuses and adapted them to do something else.

Third, the reading avers that, ancient people did not need electricity, because there were no electircal devices in those times. The professor opposes this point by saying that the electricity which is generated from batteres, makes people to feel shocked or gives them tingling sensation. She states that this might have been intresting to them because, it would have been like magic to them. Furthermore, according to the professor, the electrical shockes, nowadays, are being used to simulate muscles, and for healing purposes. So, the ancient people might have used them for the same reason.
